Who We Are - Who are the Lions?

What is the age range?

Lions International will welcome you whatever your age. In 'CWBI 2020 Virtual Lions' some of us are in our 30s and some of us are over 60 - we particularly welcome younger Lions.

 

Where do I have to live? 

As a Virtual Lions Club Member you can live anywhere.

 

Is it all meetings?

No - CWBI 2020 Virtual Lions usually meet on the 3rd Monday of the month via Zoom for a business meeting.  We do have social meetings, in some cases, face to face or even online and face to face.

 

Is it a charity?

Yes - we are a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) and are registered with the Charities Commission (Registration No1191872). This means we keep our fundraising strictly separate from our membership and administration costs, which we pay for through subscriptions.

 

Is it expensive?

Our annual fee is only £80, in other words, just over £1.50 per week, so the answer has got to be "no".

 

Do I have to be a professional person to join Lions?

No - Lions welcome everyone from all backgrounds and walks of life, male or female, whether you are working or retired, providing you share in our objectives - to serve the local community, you will be welcome.

 

How many people are there in a Lions Club?

Usually between 15 and 35, although Clubs do vary. CWBI 2020 Virtual Lions currently have 18 members, but with some Lions moving on each year it is essential to replace them. We actively seek new members.

  

What about my family?  

As we are an online club, we are very much family and pet orientated. We work on the principle that partners and family may support all fundraising activities and socials. You and your family will be welcome to our Lions community.

 

 Is Lions just fundraising?

Certainly not. We have a variety of community service activities e.g. supporting youth, the elderly, those with disabilities and health but did you know that Lions International raised $135m with the intention of eradicating preventable blindness throughout the world?

 

How much time will I have to commit to Lions?

The commitment is only what you choose to make it. We find, as with most things in life, the more you can put in, the more you will get out.
